Basofil Quick Delivery Set
Basofil®/Kevlar® products being marketed in the fire
service (ours and competitors’) are actually an engineered
blend of 40% Basofil® and 60% Kevlar®. This outer shell
offers exceptional heat blocking characteristics across a
range of heat fluxes and thus will often allow the use of
lighter liner systems. Basofil®/Kevlar® also appears to be
reasonably durable, but not as durable as Kevlar®/Nomex®,
however, does not offer all the advantages of the premium
outer shells (Pbi™). We also note periodic Black fading
issues (which do not affect protective performance and are
not covered by warranty, since the problems seem endemic).
If you are interested in Black, we suggest you strongly
consider alternative outer shells (Nomex®/Kevlar® is the
same price range and Black Pbi™ is the most durable and
protective outer shell available). Also, we have noted some
recurrent availability problems with Basofil®/Kevlar® and
some competitive fiber providers have raised the issue of
formaldehyde off-gassing. The third party testing and
research we have seen indicate this is NOT a valid concern.
Basofil®/Kevlar® is an intermediately priced product, and we
believe is among the best of those intermediate products.
